Hurricane Katrina Update

Helping Historic New Orleans Rebuild
After Hurricane Katrina

We are all deeply concerned and humbled by the experience over the last few days in New Orleans. The human impact is devastating and the potential impact on the built environment is catastrophic. As the full force of Katrina is assessed in New Orleans, Mississippi, and Alabama, we expect to see significant loss of historic buildings and neighborhoods. Many of our national treasures in this part of the country may be lost forever.

Preservation Dallas and our partners across Texas are collecting names of individuals who may be available to assist in the repair of the historic buildings when it is appropriate. We are in contact with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans, Vieux Carre Property Owners and Residents Association and other local preservation organizations in the effected area.

If you would like to make a cash donation in support of the historic properties, please visit the website of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, www.nthp.org.

In the meantime, Preservation Dallas is developing a list of individuals who may be interested in volunteering for work or assessment teams when it is appropriate.
